Upper Dolpo Trek

Upper Dolpo Trek allows you to see Nepal’s rugged and remote far west in all its glory. Dolpo shares a border with Tibet, and its culture and landscape are similar to that of its northern neighbour. The Shey-Phoksundo National Park, Nepal’s largest, is located in the district’s western part. Western Nepal is not only remote, but also underdeveloped and impoverished. Dolpo’s tourism infrastructure isn’t as good as it is in other parts of Nepal, so you’ll have to camp and bring your own food. Permits are costly, and you can’t trek in Upper Dolpo on your own. Deep valleys, high passes, and peaks, the turquoise Lake Phoksundo, the 800-year-old Shey Monastery, and some rare wildlife, including the elusive snow leopard, all reward intrepid trekkers who come here. Follow in the footsteps of ancient trans-Himalayan traders and explore the region in the dry season, free of rain. This trek around the lake, Crystal Mountain, and the views of Dhaulagiri is an unforgettable experience. In the Shey Phoksundo National Park, you can see a wide variety of flora and fauna. You can also learn about the lives and cultures of Bon Buddhism adherents.
