Valley of flowers trek is one of the most sought-after treks in Uttarakhand located in the district of Chamoli. The two other well-known pilgrimages near valley of flowers are Hemkund Sahib and Badrinath. Considered by many as one of the most beautiful places in India, the Valley of Flowers tucked into the hills of the Garhwal Himalayas is a nature lover's dream come true. During the months of July and August, innumerable flowers of various shapes, sizes and hues adorn the valley creating a veritable multi-coloured carpet. The valley is home to over 300 Colourful species including Morinas, Himalayan Blue Poppy, Brahma Kamal, Potentilla, Aster, Lilies etc.  It’s in the core zone of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. A colossal expanse of 87.5 sq. kms and myriad alpine flowers makes this place a colourful paradise. Perched at an altitude of 12070 feet above sea level, Bhyundar Valley is the home to this surreal place. Located at an elevation of about 3,858 meters above the sea level, the Valley of Flowers has been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The enchanting valley stays frozen during colder months and blooms into a youthful beauty as the snow melts with the onset of summers.

Valley Of Flowers Trek Itinerary

Day 1 - Drive from Haridwar to Govindghat

Begin a beautiful drive from Haridwar to Joshimath. Joshimath is known for its scenic beauty. A drive takes one to Uttarkashi along the narrow Ganga and Alaknanda valleys. The road goes past the sacred confluence of The Alaknanda and Bhagirathi rivers at Devprayag. Distance is about 270 kms to reach the final destination for today, Govindghat. The route goes through Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudrapryag, Karnprayag, Joshimath and finally reaching at Govindghat your destination for today.


Day 2 - Trek from Govindghat to Ghangaria

Govindghat is the starting point of the trek. From Govindghat there is a gradual ascent along a well maintained pilgrim trail to Ghangaria. This is the stopover for those going to Hemkund Sahib and has several lodges and small shops selling day to day consumables! Upon arrival at Ghangaria check into the guesthouse. Explore the surroundings in the evening. Overnight stay at Ghangaria. 

 

Day 3 - Trek from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib to Ghangaria

Today we trek from Ghangaria to Hemkund Sahib (4329 m). The trekking distance to Hemkund is around 5 kms and it is a steep climb. We can see Brahma Kamal and Himalayan blue poppy on the way to Hemkund Sahib. The entire trail is dotted with varieties of exotic flowers and other flora. We return to Ghangria and overnight stay in the guest house.

 

Day 4 - Trek from Ghangaria to Valley of Flower to Ghangaria

After breakfast, we trek to Valley Of Flowers (3858 m) from Ghangaria. The valley is an enchanting sight with an impressive array of rare wildflowers like Geranium, Marsh marigold, Prinula, Potentilla, Geum, Asters, Lilium, Corydalis, Campanula, Pedicularis, Arisaema, Rhododendrons and numerous others. Most of the flowers have medicinal values too. The valley is 10 kms long, 2 kms wide, and is divided by the Pushpawati stream, into which several tiny streams and waterfalls merge. After enjoying the beauty of valley trek back to Ghangaria. Dinner and overnight stay at guest house.


Day 5 - Trek from Ghangaria to Govindghat

Today we trek back to Govindghat which will take about 5 hours. After breakfast, we retrace our trek back to Govindghat through the familiar path we took while going. 


Day 6 - Drive from Govindghat to Haridwar

Start an early morning drive from Govindghat towards Haridwar. The journey is about 270 kms and you can reach Haridwar by the evening around 6 or 7 pm. You can plan your onward journey from here.

Registering for Valley Of Flowers Trek

Eligibility: Is this Trek suitable for me?

Valley of Flowers Trek is graded as a challenging climb. This trek helps climbers to test their skills and improve their endurance. Such high-altitude climbs should not be underestimated, and climbers should approach the trek with proper training. We highly suggest that you start working on your fitness two months before the climb. Previous trekking experience is mandatory to sign up for the Valley of Flowers Trek. Excellent physical endurance, focus, and determination are required to complete the Valley Of Flowers Trek successfully. Happy Climbing!

 

Offloading

Protrek Adventure highly recommends the participants to carry their personal backpacks by themselves. However, in case you are absolutely not able to carry the same and would like to offload, then you have to inform us during the booking process and pre-book the offloading. Each bag should not weigh more than 10 kgs. The bag should be of rucksack style only. Duffle bags would not be accepted for offloading. Kindly inform our booking office if you will need to offload your personal backpack for the Valley of Flowers trek.

Backpack Offloading Charges:

  • INR 800/- if you inform us after reaching Joshimath

Reaching Haridwar

Haridwar is an important Hindu pilgrimage site in Uttarakhand, north India. The popular Har ki Pauri Ghat and evening Ganga Aarti are popular attractions here. It remains occupied by pilgrims round the year. Places of religious interests like Chandi Devi Temple, Mansa Devi Temple and Maya Devi Temple are worthy of a visit during one's stay in Haridwar

 

By Air
Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun serves as the nearest airport to Haridwar. You can take a direct flight to Dehradun from Mumbai or Delhi or connecting flights from anywhere in India. Local vehicles can be availed from outside the airport to reach Haridwar by road from Dehradun.

 

By Rail 
Haridwar railway station is well connected to all major cities and towns of India. There are a number of regular trains available which connects the pilgrimage town well with rest of India. It is directly linked with cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Dehradun, Jaipur, Ahmedabad, Patna, Gaya, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Puri and Kochi by a good number of express trains.

 

By Road
 Haridwar can be reached easily by road from Delhi, Haryana, UP, Punjab and other parts of Uttarakhand. A number of state transport and private buses connect Haridwar with these places. Bus service is available at frequent basis and fares are also economical. You can board these buses depending upon their suitable timing. There is regular bus service from Delhi to Haridwar, from Delhi ISBT Kashmiri Gate.

 

Reaching Joshimath

Joshimath is located in the Chamoli district in Uttarakhand. it is gateway to several Himalayan mountain climbing expeditions, trekking trails and pilgrim centres like Badrinath. Both Haridwar and Rishikesh are major starting points for road journey to Joshimath. Regular buses operate from Haridwar and Rishikesh to Joshimath. The road distance to Joshimath is 270 kms approx and takes you via Rudraprayag and Chamoli. Haridwar to Joshimath buses start from early morning at regular intervals. One can also take a shared taxi from Haridwar / Rishikesh to Joshimath or Govind Ghat

 

Govindghat is a small town 20 km from Joshimath (not more than 45 mins drive). It is the gateway to Hemkund Sahib and Valley of flowers. Easily accessible from Joshimath due to its close distance. From Delhi, one can take the train to Haridwar and then travel by bus to Govindghat via Rishikesh. There are lodges available in both Joshimath and Govindghat, which makes it convenient for an overnight stop and prepare for next days trek.
