Reporting day at Leh (Altitude 11400 ft). The flight to Ladakh is absolutely scenic. You get a birds-eye view of the entire city and the layers of snow-clad mountains will help you understand why it is impossible to reach Ladakh by road in winters. Leh airport is one of the highest airports in the world and you will feel a drop in the temperature the minute you land at the airport. Keep your woolen cap and gloves handy. Leh is quite in the winters and very few shops and eateries are open for business. You can spend some time at the Leh market for last minute window shopping. Acclimatization is very important before the trek as the temperatures would further drop during the trek. You can try to spend time outdoors for acclimatization, but do not exert yourself. Don’t forget to drink plenty of fluids through the day and keep your body well hydrated. Overnight at guest house in Leh

Day 2 - Acclimatization and rest day

Today is also rest and acclimatization day. Take short acclimatization walks during the day and visit nearby places and market. Keep yourself well hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids. As per the new regulations applied by Ladakh Government Authorities, anyone doing the Chadar Trek should be spending at least two days in Leh to get their body fully acclimatized to the weather conditions. It is irrevocable and it is important that it is strictly followed by every trekker. Today, you might have to get medically examined at SNM Hospital in Leh and the checkup would be organized (as required).

Day 3 - Leh to Shingra Koma via Chilling & Tilad Do

Drive will take about 3 to 4 hours to reach and another 2 hours of trekking to the camp (Altitude - 11,480 to 10,550ft). After breakfast today, you will start on the way to your first campsite which is Shingra Koma via Chilling & Tilad Do. It is one of the most scenic drives which brings you the delight of seeing some of the most beautiful spots in Ladakh. Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill and the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus are some of the places where you can take a pit stop for clicking memorable pictures. An hour and a half of driving along the Zanskar will get you to Chilling. The car will drop you right where the road ends. This will be your starting point of walking on the Zanskar. This will be your first experience of camping under sub-zero temperatures. Overnight camp at Shingra Koma

Day 4 - Shingra Koma to Tibb Cave

Trekking distance is 15 kms which would be covered in about 6 to 7 hours approx (Altitude - 10,400 to 10,800 ft). As you make your way to the campsite of Tibb Cave, you will be seeing some of the most beautiful formations of nature like the frozen waterfalls that stand frozen in time. The source of some of these frozen waterfalls is still unknown and there are a lot of myths and beliefs about them. The mighty Zanskar will be flowing all along with you on the trail and the emerald green water will have a smoothing effect. Lunch will be done midway to Tibb cave. After walking for a couple of hours you'll come across different rock patterns along the way which looks artistic when the sun rays fall on them making their way from behind the clouds. Overnight at Tibb Cave

Day 5 - Tibb Cave to Nyerak Camp

Trekking distance is 13 kms which would be covered in about 6 to 7 hours approx (Altitude - 10,800 to 11,100 ft). The campsite to be reached for the day is Nyerak. Trek begins after breakfast. You can see the most scenic landmark of Chadar Trek, that is the frozen waterfall. This frozen waterfall is a nature's masterpiece in itself and attracts trekkers and adventurers from across the globe. Hot lunch will be served on your way to Nyerak. The temperatures in Nyerak camp can go as low as -30 degrees during the night making it the coldest of all campsites during the trek. Proper clothing for the cold temperatures, with extra layering, is a must. You will be camping at a distance of 15-20 minutes from the frozen waterfall. Overnight at Nyerak Camp.

Day 6 - Nyerak To Tibb Cave

Trekking distance is 13 kms which would be covered in about 5 to 6 hours approx (Altitude - 11,100 to 10,800 ft). Today after breakfast, we start the trek and basically trace our steps back to the Tibb campsite. If you think you are going to see the same frozen ice sheet again, think again. The Zanskar river reacts to the slightest change in the temperatures, and constantly keeps changing its form. You will not be able to recognize the sights, it all seems so different on the way back. You might walk on a glass-like surface or patches and patches of slush, depending on the weather. On your way back to Tibb Cave, you will be seeing a lot of locals negotiating the Chadar wearing the traditional woolen Gonchas, where some of them are monks coming back to Leh from the monastery at Lingshed. You will be in awe of the way these people have adapted to the temperatures below zero. Overnight at camps in Tibb Cave.

Day 7 - Tibb Cave to Gyalpo

Trekking distance is 12 kms which would be covered in about 5 to 6 hours approx (Altitude - 10,800ft to 10,500 ft). Today we start from Tibb campsite and go to Gyalpo. You will see the high mountains rising from both sides of the river which look like castle walls. You will be noticing a lot of fresh trails and footprints all along the trek, belonging to Foxes, Ibex or Snow Leopards. Overnight at tents in Gyalpo

Day 8 - Gyalpo to Shingra Koma & back to Leh

Trekking distance is 6 km which would be covered in about 3 to 4 hours and then a Drive of 65 kms to Leh, 3-4 hrs. (Altitude - Trek 10,500ft to 10,300ft and drive to 11,400 ft). We will be retracing our steps back to Shingra Koma with the views of the majestic and mesmerizing Chadar along the way. It’s the last day of the Chadar trek. You will be reaching Leh in the late evening and we recommend trekkers to book for their onward journey on day 9 morning. Tonight, you get to sleep in a warm guest-house.
