Travel Insurance

If you are planning to set out on an adventure with Protrek Adventure then travel insurance is mandatory. We strongly recommend you to buy travel insurance that covers medical and emergency evacuation costs. There is no doubt that Himalayan adventures are fun and exciting, but it has its share of risks as well. Travelers must be prepared for any such unforeseen circumstances when in the outdoors. This is where your insurance will be of great help to you. There are a wide range of insurance companies to choose from depending on where you live.

The chance of such unforeseen circumstances are very rare, nevertheless one should be prepared for it. When you choose a policy make sure that it covers most of the cases, like for instance Medical insurance, Accident cover, Emergency evacuation, high altitude rescue, and other medical emergency expenses. Standard policies typically only cover medical evacuation to 4000 meters, so make sure you get a policy that covers trekking up to 6000 meters. For peak climbing and other mountaineering expeditions, your policy should cover higher altitudes along with appropriate heli and rescue insurance.

Some insurance policies will cover trip interruptions. It is beneficial to have this type of insurance in the event that your Lukla flight is canceled and you want to book a helicopter or even rebook your international flight. Our team will assist you in obtaining any documentation required by your insurance company.

When purchasing a policy, ensure that it covers the entire duration of your trekking and climbing activities. It is also suggested that your insurance covers the cost of helicopter services in case of any emergency evacuations from the mountains. This is especially required for those attempting mountaineering expeditions. Here the quickest way to get back to safety in case of any accidents or severe illness, is to take the heli services. For peak climbing and other mountaineering expeditions, your policy should cover high altitude rescue and Heli evacuation in case of any accidents or health issues.

Some policies require that you pay for evacuation in Nepal up front and will reimburse you when you get home and submit the documents. While the majority of insurance companies will cover these costs prior to your departure, some will require you to pay them all out of pocket and then reimburse you. We recommend that you review your insurance policy to ensure that it will cover all upfront costs in the event of an evacuation.

Please make certain that you have travel insurance that covers all of the costs listed above from a reputable company before beginning your journey with us. It’s always better to be safe than sorry in these situations. Travel insurance is required and strongly recommended prior to embarking on any adventurous trips in Nepal with Protrek Adventure.
